Dell cpu usage 100 windows 7

If the high task is svchost then there are several and it can be a problem identifying which one is the culprit. Don't close the window but switch back to task manager and kill the offending process. Immediately revert back to the command window and repeat the command and compare with the previous run.

You will find one missing which will show which services might be the CPU hog. You are actually using only around 3. If so, you should not be doing that. What percentage does it run at without System Idle Process? Thank you for your reply — and yes, I know the bit only recognizes 3.

Thanks for your reply — I agree and still think that AVG is the problem. I will try to reinstall and see if this helps. That has to be a matter of personal preference but I would at least remove it and re-install if nothing else. MSE does not have much favour with the press but I suspect that is in part sour grapes and not based on concrete issues.

Personally I have no problem with it, it is lighter and just does what it is supposed to do compared to others which tend to be a bit bloated. As you only need one stick take the other out and try it for a while like that, the interleave provided by two has marginal speed benefits anyway. Check the Programs and Features for any stragglers, likewise the Startup option in Msconfig. When you remove an AV most have a cleanup tool available from their website such as AVG or McAfee so even if you have uninstalled a program apparently normally running these tools can find bits left behind.

All you need to do is set the option in the Windows Update to "Download Updates but let me choose whether to Install them. Open task Manager and click on the CPU tab and then open the "Resource Monitor" and look for the wuauserv in the lower view pane column is running for the Windows Update.

You will still get the updates as long as you resume the process you suspended "wuausrv. Then you go select the "Download Updates but let me choose whether to install them. You can pin the Resource Monitor to your task bar so you can get to it without having to open the Task manager.

I would suggest you to clean boot the system and enable each application one by one and check the performance as we will be able to identify if there is any conflict between applications. Ravi, are you suggesting running applications "in pairs" to see if there are interactions that are different in one pair or another? Would this give a different result than enabling them?

I have not been able to reproducibly create the high CPU usage problem by putting a heavy load on one application or another. We are trying to analyze if there is any conflict between application and the operating system so that we can check and reinstall the specific application on the system.

The problem with your thought is that sometimes the system will run for hours with all applications open and experience no slowdown. And other times it will bog down within an hour.

These are essentially the only applications I run. I've had an independent computer repair shop look at it and they have suggested an essentially undiagnoseable hardware issue.

They would not work on the computer because they felt they could not solve a problem that was neither predictable or reproducible. I'm going to limp along by restarting the computer when it gets slow shades of Windows 95 and get a new computer when Win 10 comes out. We have performed all the troubleshooting steps on the system. The hardware seems to be fine.

Please follow the steps in the link below to check if it fixes the system concern. Also, please check if there is backup software or antivirus scan which runs on the system when the issue reoccurs. Browse Community. Laptops General - Read Only.
