High school students preparing for a career in nursing should take biology, chemistry, and additional college preparatory courses required for CSU admissions. Students without prior nursing education. In order to be considered eligible to apply to the nursing program, BSN applicants must be an admitted transfer student, or currently enrolled Pre-Health student at California State University, Fresno, or on an approved leave of absence from California State University, Fresno.
Transfer applicants who are admitted to the University, but not to the School of Nursing will have their majors changed to their secondary option. Second Bachelors students who are not admitted to the program will also not be admitted to the University.
The program is on impacted status the number of applications received is greater than the number of vacancies for the program. Therefore, admission into the nursing major is very competitive; there is no waiting list. Admission selection is based on meeting the minimum requirements to apply and review of top candidates by prerequisite GPA. If not selected, and you are an incoming transfer student your major will be changed to your secondary option and you will not be allowed to apply again until you have graduated from that major and reapplied as a second bachelors student.
If you are a continuing Pre-Nursing student prior to Fall or if you are a new Pre-Health student starting Fall and forward you may reapply and will compete with the entire new applicant pool if not selected. Note: Preference will be given to U. Remaining applicants will be ranked by prerequisite GPA and admitted as enrollment quotas allow. The following eight prerequisite courses must be completed prior to entry into the nursing program. Application Process. All Pre-Requisites courses must be completed the semester before application to the program.
Supplemental Application Information. Supplemental application is accessed via NursingCAS www. TEAS must be completed by February 28th. Prerequisite courses must be completed the Spring prior. All course grades must be posted on transcripts at time of application deadline. TEAS must be completed by July 31st. Students will be allowed to take the TEAS beyond 2 attempts, only after 5 years have passed from the first attempt. Nursing Admissions Policies. Fall Only Pre-Nursing is discontinued as of Fall and students will need to directly apply to the program If a student is not admitted to the Nursing Program they will be admitted to their secondary choice.
If a students starts in their secondary choice they must graduate with that major and reapply as a second bachelors applicant. Once a students starts at the university they will not be allowed to apply to the Nursing Program. University Policies. Adding a Second Major Students who wish to declare a second major must submit a plan approved by the department offering the second major which demonstrates that the new major can be completed within units.
Students may not add a second major after completing the requirement for their first major unless students have not exceeded earned units at the time of declaration. If the student has 90 or more earned units, the request to the new department must be accompanied by a plan demonstrating that the new major can be completed within units.
Students who do not request LOA will not be readmitted into the major. Leaves will be granted only for students who have completed at least one semester in the program and are in good standing. Request to return from leave of absence: a. Students must request in writing to be reinstated in the program specifying:.
Students will be notified in writing of requirements for returning to program, denial, or reinstatement. Requirement for return will include the following, based on the discretion of the chair of nursing:. Students who receive written notice of reinstatement in the major return on a space-available basis and must receive permission from the school to enroll in classes. Progression in the Major. Nursing and required courses may be repeated only once to achieve a C or credit grade.
Any student who receives less than a C grade or no credit in two nursing courses will not be permitted to continue in the major. Students must be prepared to incur any additional cost such as uniforms, malpractice insurance, health insurance, stethoscopes, course materials, lab fees, background check, drug screening, etc.
